You can use the Member Categories feature to automatically place subscribers for your Group, Page, or Network paywall into custom-made categories. Using this feature can help you to encourage your members to sign up for special membership designations and badges.
To enable Member Categories for any Paid Access paywall on your network, click “Paid Access” under Settings on your network’s Dashboard then click on ‘Edit’ next to the paywall for which you’d like to enable integration. You’ll see the detailed page for this paywall’s current settings where the “Member Category Integration” field will show as “Not active’. Click the ‘Edit’ link and then select the radio button on the next page to enable the feature.
You can now choose how to automatically assign members of this paywall to a member category you’ve created as well as how to designate the lapsed subscribers. When you’re done making changes on this page, click “Continue” then “Publish”. Lastly, you’ll see a light-box appear for you to confirm the changes to your paywall settings. Once you click ‘Confirm’ you’ll be all set.
You can use this feature for both Fixed Price paywall integration as well as for your Donation paywalls.
Fixed-price Paywall Integration
You can use Member Categories in conjunction with a fixed-price paywall to assign paying members who pay to a custom-made category. For example: You want members who pay to subscribe for access to a special VIP Group to be identified with a special VIP badge. You can simply assign those paying members to a custom-made category.
Donation Paywall Integration
You can also use Member Categories in conjunction with a donation paywall to encourage members to give more in order to achieve a higher level of prestige. You do this by setting a threshold for payment that puts one (higher-paying) class of membership on a pedestal. For example: Gold members = $20/year donation; everyone who contributes below that amount = Silver member; all non-paying members = a non-paying category (you can simply use the “default member” designation for non-paying members if you choose).
Please note that as with other Member Categories you create, your members can only be in one category at a time and will reflect the most recent category they were assigned to, whether that was manually or automatically.
