You can control what text is displayed in email notifications sent to members of your Ning Network with the Email feature.
You can choose whether to display complete, partial, or no text in messaging, comment and new content emails sent from your network. This flexibility can grant members the ease of keeping up with your network’s activities and members from their own email accounts. On the flip side, you can also limit the amount of content your members see outside of the network, thus increasing traffic by requiring them to retrieve the entire text of the message from their account on your network.
You can access the Email feature by heading over to the My Network tab and clicking the “Email” link under the Settings heading.
In the email tab, you can make changes to how Member communications and Content updates are sent.
Member communications refers to private messages, profile comments and friend requests. Content updates refer to new forum discussions; comments on forum discussions, blog posts, photos, videos, groups, events and pages; and notifications for members who are following new blog posts, discussions, events, photos or videos. You can choose from the following options for each type of email:
- No text: shows no text, just a link to the comment or message
- 200 characters: shows 200 characters of the comment or message
- Full text: shows the entire comment or message
You can also turn off emails for comments on member My Pages, which can help to control spam on your network. Click here to learn about other spam-fighting tips.
